SHA fraud: Trio in court for falsifying medical claims

The magistrate released each of the accused on a cash bail of Sh70,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.

Three medical officers from Walalaha Nursing Home have been charged before a Nairobi court with allegedly defrauding the Social Health Authority (SHA) through falsified medical claim forms.

The accused, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Abdi Bishar, and Abdullahi Dereow, are said to have conspired to obtain Sh179,200 from SHA by submitting fraudulent inpatient claim documents between December 16, 2024, and June 26, 2025.

Court documents indicate that the trio knowingly presented fake medical claim forms purporting to be genuine to unlawfully receive payments from the health fund. The prosecution told the court that the accused benefited from the proceeds of crime linked to the fraudulent submissions.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts, the three pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences.

The magistrate released each of the accused on a cash bail of Sh70,000 pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The matter will be mentioned after two weeks for pre-trial directions.
